Queens of the Night
Back on the square where the night never ends,
Cars lined up, engines humming low.
We step out slow with color on our lips,
but behind every smile, we hide our little thrill.
Cammy nods at a Buick, Sara giggles low,
Josie waves to the Toyota boy, and he’s caught in the show.
We tease ’em with fire, we pull ’em in close,
but no one sees the game we play
’Cause we’re the queens of the night,
A laugh, a step, a look held just long enough.
We keep it easy, we keep it loose,
but trust me — no one here gets to close.
Toyota boy is grinning like he’s already won,
Josie answers soft, watching him carefully.
His buddies stand beside him, hoping for a chance,
but they don’t know they’re just background in our midnight dance.
We sway like sparks, untouched by the heat,
and every time they reach, we slip right off the beat.
It ain’t cruel, honey, it’s just how we roll,
we flirt with the fire, but we never lose control.
Yeah, we’re the queens of the night,
we run the night with a glance and a tease.
We hand out sweet dreams, but we keep our distance,
but we don’t hand over anything real.
But something’s changing in Josie tonight,
she looks at him different, not part of the fight.
I stand in the corner and watch her hesitate,
Like maybe this time she’s not pretending.
Has someone touched her – for real this time?
Or is it just another trick in the streetlight rhyme?
There’s a spark in her eyes I’ve never seen before,
Like maybe she doesn’t want to leave.
We’re the queens of the game,
But sometimes even we get caught off guard.
We play with feelings — but what happens when,
one of us wants more than that.
Josie’s smile isn’t just a trick anymore.
and in her eyes I see it — she might mean it with him…
…she means it this time.
Josie’s smile isn’t just a trick anymore.
and in her eyes I see it — she might mean it with him…
…she means it this time.
Watching the Queens
Back on the square where the evening drags on,
Cars lined up, engines humming softly.
I don’t roll with the regular crowd,
Just a quiet Toyota parked along the side.
The dark-haired girl by the Buick, hair catching the lights,
That redhead looks like she stepped out of an old poster.
Then the blonde turns and waves at me —
One little sign, and I stop dead for a second.
I know I’m not the type they usually spot,
Not the loudest guy around.
They’re the queens of the night,
A laugh, a step, a look held just long enough.
They keep it easy, they keep it chill
But someone like me doesn’t get that close.
I smile like maybe I’ve got a chance,
But I know the way things go here.
Her friends hang back, keeping an eye,
Like I’m just another name in the crowd.
They move like nothing can touch them,
Like the heat of the night won’t stick.
I tell myself to stay calm,
Don’t get pulled too deep.
Yeah, they’re the queens of the night,
They run the corner with a look and a little laugh.
They hand out little tales for the night,
But they don’t give away anything honest.
But something’s different with the blonde tonight,
She’s not just joking around.
When she looks at me, it feels honest,
Like maybe this time she’s not putting on an act.
I see her stop by my car,
Like she’s thinking about staying close.
And for a second I feel it —
She’s reaching for me.
They’re the queens of the night,
But maybe even queens can be caught off guard.
Maybe the game doesn’t feel the same,
When it starts to feel like something true.
She’s not smiling like it’s just a trick.
And for the first time I see it clear —
She’s not looking past me.
She’s here.
