Ashes In The Wind

Ashes In The Wind

I walked through the silence where children once played
Now the swings are just shadows and the colors have decayed
There’s a doll in the dirt with no face to be found
And the echoes of laughter are buried underground

I try to remember the warmth in their eyes
But the fire took that too when it blackened the skies

Scatter the ashes and let them fly
Carried by ghosts into a crimson sky
Whisper their names in the coldest air
There’s no one left, but someone should care

There’s a photo half-burnt in a splintered old frame
They had dreams, they had names, now they all look the same
There’s a crack in the wall where the daylight leaks through
But it’s pale and it’s bitter, like the truth we once knew

I search for a sign, for a reason to stay
But hope packed its bags and just walked away

Scatter the ashes and let them fly
Carried by ghosts into a crimson sky
Whisper their names in the coldest air
There’s no one left, but someone should care

Maybe the earth will someday forgive
But this soil is poisoned by the blood we let live
No flowers will grow where mercy has died
Only silence and wind, where the memories hide

Scatter the ashes and let them fly
Carried by ghosts into a crimson sky
Kiss them goodbye as the shadows bend
Say them a prayer… and let it all end

Scatter the ashes and let them fly
Carried by ghosts into a crimson sky
Kiss them goodbye as the shadows bend
Say them a prayer… and let it all end
