“Waiting” by Vidar Kolbrand is now officially released.
The song started with something that actually happened to me.
After being taken to the emergency department by ambulance because of chest pain, there wasn’t much left to do except wait. Wait for someone to tell me what was going on. Wait for the next test. Wait for an answer.
And while I was lying there, I started noticing the small things around me.
People sitting or lying in their own thoughts. Someone coughing a few beds away. A nurse walking past. Someone staring at their phone. The clock slowly moving forward.
And then I got hungry.
For a while, that somehow became my biggest problem.
That mixture of uncertainty, anxiety and a little bit of dark humor became the starting point for the song.
A few lines came into my head while I was still there, so I wrote them down on my phone. When I got home, I started developing the idea further. I also used ChatGPT and Grok for parts of the lyrics and as sounding boards during the writing process.
The result became “Waiting” — a dark, atmospheric rock song about what happens inside your head when you don’t have an answer and all you can do is wait.
Now the song is no longer just an idea that started in a hospital bed.
It is out in the world.
