No Promises Tonight

No Promises Tonight

The square is still glowing, but the clock has struck twelve,
I’m hanging by the hoods and backseats where the shadows like to dwell.
Cammy’s flirting with some guy in a Dodge from the wrong damn decade,
Sara’s on the hood making out with a stranger, lost in the games that we play.

I giggle at a boy in a way-too-tight white shirt, he’s trying hard to be cool,
but when he leans in closer I still fall – it’s the night’s unsteady rule.
Nobody here is looking for more – it’s only the night’s dance,
but over there stands Josie, quiet in his arms – no coincidence, no chance.

An old car radio crackles through a worn-out speaker in the night,
I’m in the backseat, lips on lips, but nothing here feels right.
He strokes my neck, his fingers sliding down my skin – it feels good, but it’s not what he thinks,
when he moves further down I pull his hand away, we play our game, but he won’t get everything.

I smile, run my fingers through my hair – this is how we do it, trading glances, playing our cards.
It’s nothing serious, just a rush for the night, he can touch me, but we stop at the edge, no promises, no scars.
Sara changes places again, flirting like she was born for the thrill,
Cammy disappears with some guy while we stay in this hot, secret chill.

But right in the middle stand the two of them – Josie and him,
something in their eyes tells me it’s more than a game, more than a whim.
I look at the boy next to me and I smile to myself,
but my thoughts keep drifting – to something I can’t quite understand, and it feels like I know, but I don’t.

The others are lost in the haze now, laughter and kisses without end,
but there stands Josie in his arms – like the game doesn’t matter anymore, like it was real for them.
I rise from the backseat, pull on my jacket with confident grace,
look out over the night, playing my game with charm, nothing’s too late, nothing’s out of place.

Some people want more, something deeper, something real that lasts,
but I feel best in the game where freedom always wins – where everyone chooses their own path.
And there I see Josie now, in somebody else’s arms,
thinking she’s left the game behind – but me? I’m doing another round, safe in my charms.

More Than the Game

The square is still glowing, but the clock has struck twelve,
Engines humming low while the shadows twist and swell.
Cammy’s laughing with some dude in a beat-up Dodge from another time,
Sara’s on the hood, lost in kisses, playing the game like it’s fine.

I see girls giggling at boys in tight white shirts trying way too hard,
but I’m standing still with Josie in my arms – this feels different, not just a spark.
Everybody’s chasing the night, no one wants more than the dance,
but right here with her it’s quiet… like we slipped out of the chance.

Old car radio crackling through cracked speakers in the dark,
I hold her close, her head on my chest, while the others play their parts.
Her fingers trace my neck, soft and slow, no rush in her touch,
around us they’re grabbing hands and pulling away – but we don’t need that crutch.

She smiles up at me and the noise fades out, like we’re in our own little world,
Sara switches guys again, Cammy’s already gone with some new fling unfurled.
They’re all chasing thrills, lips and skin in the heat of the night,
but Josie looks at me and I know – this ain’t the same game, this feels right.

I don’t know the redhead in the backseat or the boys trying their luck,
but something in this moment makes the chaos feel far away, out of touch.
She’s probably still playing her game with some stranger in the glow,
while I stand here with Josie – the only thing that feels real in the flow.

The others are drowning in haze, laughter turning to breathless sighs,
but she’s here in my arms like the chaos just passes us by.
I pull her a little closer, jacket around her shoulders against the cool air,
watching the backseat shadows move while we stand like we don’t care.

Some chase the rush, the freedom, the nothing-that-lasts,
but I’ve never wanted the game – I just want something real that holds fast.
And there she is, Josie, choosing this instead of the spin,
while the girl in the car keeps playing… I’m glad we stepped out of that scene.

Maybe the night still has more, but right now I don’t need to decide,
I’ve got her here, steady and warm – and for once the world feels wide.
